At first, Germany was split into four zones occupied separately by France, Great Britain, the US, and the Soviet Union but when these zones were united West Germany was controlled by the US, Great Britain, and France after WW2.

During the "Cold War" the west part of Germany was controlled by Britain, France, and the U.S.A which became the Federal Republic of Germany.
