Panhoehoe lava is a smooth thick type of lava. Because of it's viscosity, it will often form what looks like "ropes" because it will be so thick running and cool enough and then more flows behind it causing a staggered appearance. The cool part about panhoehoe lava is that it can also flow uphill, as well.
