He was interested in natural sciences and spent a great deal of his time outdoors.  In his vacation in the Nile, he collected specimens and also dabbled in taxidermy.  He also spent some time in the frontier as ranch hand.  His appreciation for nature can also be reflected in many of his policies when he was President where he implemented many environmental programs such as tree conservations and urban reforms.
