The Louisiana Purchase was significant to the U.S. not because it gave about 827,000 square miles for a small cost to the United States but also because it enabled the U.S. to become a more extended territory. Another important reason why the Louisiana Purchase was important for the United States is because of the trade and the fact that it granted access to the harbor of New Orleans and the Mississippi River.
