The Sherman's March to Sea, also known as the Savannah Campaign, began just outside of Atlanta after his troops won and took over the city. It ended when he reached and conquered Port Savannah on December 21st. It was led all over Georgia and is considered to be a victory for the Union because it disrupted Confederate forces and communication.
