Fairytales: Fantasy, make believe, good and evil characters, magical elements, enchanted setting like a kingdom and or forest

Folktales: a story passed down from generation to generation, supernatural elements (like a ghost story which could happen to anyone)

Fairytales and Folktales usually have good guys and bad guys. One of the characters might have a task to complete too.
