Tweed was arrested for stealing a huge amount of money which was estimated to $25 million and $45 million from New York City taxpayers in 1877 but later political corruption, estimates ranged as high as $200 million. He was not able to make bail, but he did escaped one time from jail,but was got caught n was returned.
